Do you know how to build a bridge strong enough to hold hundreds of tons of weight? What if the bridge must be wide enough to allow traffic to flow underneath but narrow enough to fit into constricted right of way? Civil engineers know how to build it.

February 18-24 is National Engineers Week. It’s a time to celebrate how engineers make a difference in our lives while also working to ensure we’ll have a future workforce of diverse and well-educated engineers to solve the infrastructure problems of tomorrow.

In support of that aim, NTTA sponsors the Jere W. Thompson Jr. Scholarship. This scholarship provides qualified civil engineering students up to $2,000 per semester with a maximum award of $8,000 combined for four semesters.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate civil engineering program while maintaining a 3.0 grade point average.

Since 2001, the Jere W. Thompson Jr. scholarship has awarded more than $120,000 in educational funding to students in need. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is May 1, 2018.
