More Room is Coming Your Way

Feel something different in the air? It’s not just the shifting winds that come with autumn.

It’s the anticipation of good changes on the horizon for the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) and the President George Bush Turnpike.

An extra (fourth) lane is already available if you’re headed northbound on the tollway between Trinity Mills Road and the exit to the Bush Turnpike.

We also created an extra lane for people driving southbound from the Bush Turnpike to Belt Line Road.

Don’t worry. We’re not done yet. We’re still working to add a lane in each direction all the way between the Bush Turnpike and the Sam Rayburn Tollway. All the work to add these driving lanes to the Dallas North Tollway is expected to be complete by early 2018.

As we work to improve your commute, check out details of our construction plans and how they may affect your drive.

Dallas North Tollway between Parker Road and the Sam Rayburn Tollway

Earlier this year, we closed the ramps along the Dallas North Tollway at Parker Road, and, this month, we will reopen those ramps in new locations. Relocating these ramps will make it easier to enter and exit the tollway and provide better access to businesses along the frontage road in this busy area.

Last month, crews completed a final major step in rebuilding the Tennyson Parkway bridge over the tollway when they installed the concrete deck on the bridge. In the coming months, the bridge will reopen to traffic in its final configuration, including three lanes and two turn lanes in each direction.

Construction crews finished installing a new barrier on the tollway between Harvest Hill Road and Forest Lane and between Lovers Lane and Mockingbird Lane.

Crews have started removing the existing barrier between Forest Lane and Royal Lane and between Northwest Highway and Lovers Lane.

Most of the construction on the south end of the DNT will happen during off-peak hours – at night and on some weekends. Various lane and ramp closures will be needed. We will announce the closures on social media, and information will be posted on ProgressNTTA.org.

Widening of the Bush Turnpike is in full swing with crews excavating and grading the areas between State Highway 78 and U.S. 75 and between the tollway and I-35E. Once this work is complete, crews will be ready to pave the extra lane.
