NTTA TRANSPARENCY EFFORTS RECOGNIZED BY TEXAS PUBLIC INTEREST GROUP

PLANO, Texas – April 26, 2017 – The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) earned an A rating for financial transparency according to “Following the Money 2017,” a new report by the Texas Public Interest Research Group (TexPIRG).  The rating recognizes NTTA’s success in fulfilling its mission to operate the Authority in a businesslike manner, protect its bondholders, and partner to meet North Texas’ growing need for transportation infrastructure.

“We welcome the recognition of our efforts in transparency and providing online public access to information. I expect it will encourage everyone at NTTA to do even better,” said NTTA Board Chairman Kenneth Barr.

TexPIRG analyzed 79 special districts across the nation and found:

  • NTTA was one of only seven special districts across the U.S. to show detailed spending online
  • NTTA was one of only three Texas special districts that earned “A”s
  • NTTA earned membership in the Texas Comptroller’s Transparency Stars program

“Several Texas special districts and the Comptroller are proactive in ensuring the work they do is transparent to the public,” TexPIRG’s Stephanie Carter said.

About the NTTA
The North Texas Tollway Authority, a political subdivision of the state of Texas, is authorized to acquire, construct, maintain, repair and operate turnpike projects across the north Texas region. The nine-member board is comprised of Chairman Kenneth Barr; Vice Chairman Bill Moore; and Directors William D. Elliott, Mojy Haddad, John Mahalik, Michael Nowels, George “Tex” Quesada, Carl O. Sherman and Jane Willard.

NTTA serves Collin, Dallas, Denton, Tarrant and Johnson counties and owns and operates the Dallas North Tollway, President George Bush Turnpike, Sam Rayburn Tollway, Addison Airport Toll Tunnel, Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge, Mountain Creek Lake Bridge and Chisholm Trail Parkway. NTTA raises capital for construction projects through the issuance of turnpike revenue bonds. NTTA toll projects are not a part of the state highway system and receive no direct tax funding. Tolls are collected to repay debt and to operate and maintain the roadways.
