Will Tollway Construction Affect Your Drive in 2019?

The Sam Rayburn Tollway

We’ve started construction to add a fourth lane in each direction for the full length of the Sam Rayburn Tollway. By now, you may have noticed temporary orange signs throughout the corridor to remind drivers to be cautious in the new construction area.

The new lanes will be added within the median.

Crews are setting up temporary concrete barriers along the median in Allen, Frisco, Plano and Lewisville to protect them while they work and help traffic move smoothly and safely past the construction zone. We will need some lane closures while the crews set up the temporary barriers, and that portion of the work is expected to be complete in February. Those closures will happen when traffic is at its lightest. The new lanes are expected to be complete in late 2021. We’ll post announcements of lane and ramp closures on NTTA.org at least 24 hours in advance. We’ll also post planned closures on our social media channels.

The President George Bush Turnpike

Drivers on the President George Bush Turnpike are enjoying the recently opened fourth lanes built within the median between State Highway 78 and the Dallas North Tollway, and crews are at work building the next phase of lane additions in the Carrollton area of the Bush Turnpike. Those lanes are expected to be complete late this year.

In late summer, we will also get started adding lanes in the median between Interstate 35E and just north of Belt Line Road in Irving. Check out the graphic below that shows the status of these different construction phases for widening the road.
