Ask the Experts: How Do Out-Of-State Drivers Pay To Drive On North Texas Toll Roads?

NTTA offers seamless travel on its roads through cashless tolling, which means drivers on North Texas roads never have to stop and pay at a toll booth.

Drivers without a TollTag get a ZipCash bill in the mail from us about a month after choosing one of our roads or an area TEXpress Lane.

NTTA partners with other agencies to identify out-of-state vehicles for our ZipCash customers. The addresses we use to bill drivers are to the registered owner of the vehicle and provided by each state’s department of motor vehicles.

If you have out-of-town guests coming in to visit for the holidays who live in either Oklahoma or Kansas, let them know they can pay their NTTA tolls with a PIKEPASS or a K-Tag.

If they’re renting a car, they should talk to their rental car company about how they charge their customers for travel on toll roads. Policies vary by rental car company.

Before heading to North Texas, out-of-state vehicle owners can become TollTag members to earn discounts on toll roads throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.

Visitors can also temporarily link a TollTag to a rental car to save on possible charges assessed by rental car companies for using toll roads. Just be sure to ask one of our Customer Service agents to help you remove that rental vehicle from your TollTag account at the end of your rental agreement to avoid unexpected tolls.

So, why do visitors to the area have to pay tolls on North Texas roads?

So NTTA can repay the bondholders who finance road construction, every driver who uses toll roads has to pay their fair share. Since NTTA doesn’t receive tax revenues to operate and maintain its roads, it’s imperative to collect all owed tolls.

Visit mytolltag.com or call our Customer Service Center at (972) 818-NTTA (6882) or 817-731-NTTA (6882) to set up a new TollTag account.
