How A Red Thumb Could Prevent 100,000 Accidents In DFW

Did you know nearly 100,000 vehicle accidents a year in DFW can be attributed to distracted drivers?

We’ve all noticed the car in front of us drifting into the next lane or driving too slowly. According to recent research, drivers who text are up to eight times as likely to be involved in a crash.

Since 2015, NTTA has led the Red Thumb movement – a safety campaign aimed at ending distracted driving – specifically, texting and driving – in North Texas by encouraging drivers to make some part of their thumb red to remind them to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road at all times.

This spring, NTTA asked local students to help spread the word about the dangers of texting and driving through a graphic design and video contest. Video contest winner Isaac Littleton, a junior at Flower Mound High School, created an impactful video that shows just how dangerous it can be to text and drive.
